Location & Schedule This position typically works Monday Friday, 8:00am 4:00pm. Licensing Technicians are responsible for performing work at the customer-facing counters at the Denver Licensing and Consumer Protection offices at the Webb Municipal Building in Denver. Who We Are At the heart of Denvers thriving business community, the City and County of Denvers Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP) plays a vital role in ensuring public safety and consumer confidence. We manage the issuance of over 120 types of business licenses, partnering with entrepreneurs and organizations to ensure compliance and support economic growth. Our dedicated team oversees license renewals, conducts public hearings, and enforces regulations through actions such as suspensions and revocations. DLCP also collects fees for new and renewed licenses, issues security alarm permits, and serves as the local authority for administering Colorados liquor and marijuana codes. Together, we help foster a fair, vibrant, and well-regulated business environment across the city. What Youll Do The Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP) is seeking a Licensing Technician I. Licensing Technicians serve as frontline customer service representatives for the department. This role supports a diverse range of customers and helps ensure licensing processes are handled accurately, efficiently, and with a high level of professionalism. As a Licensing Technician I, you will: Accept and initiate the processing of routine and some complex applications for business licenses and renewals, including guiding applicants through the application process and reviews for completion and accuracy of all legal, business, and transactional documentation that need to accompany applications. Interpret and explain licensing rules, regulations, state/federal statues, time requirements, and procedures, and respond to applicants and attorneys questions or concerns. Work closely with various stakeholders to review the completeness/deficiencies in applications, passed/failed inspections and other licensee issues that may arise. Question applicants to obtain required information, such as name, address, lease, purchase agreement, operating agreement, certificate/license qualifications, right of way bonds, insurance, articles of organizations, zone use permit etc. and records data on agencys database and prescribed forms. Determine the appropriate application fees and license fees for licenses then enter information into the agencys database. Perform routine data entry and other office support activities, including creating, sorting, scanning, photocopying, distributing, and filing documents. Support customer outreach efforts and represent the department at educational community events, as required. What Youll Bring The ideal Licensing Technician I is a reliable, detailoriented professional who communicates well, stays calm under pressure, and provides steady, solutionsfocused support to a diverse customer base. They manage their time effectively, handle multiple tasks with accuracy, and bring a strong commitment to customer service and regulatory compliance. In addition, our ideal Licensing Technician I candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics: Bilingual skills (Preferred, but not required) A customer-centered approach, with strong communication skills and professionalism when working with a diverse range of customers. The ability to self-manage, prioritize tasks, and successfully multi-task while maintaining quality of work. The ability to remain calm under pressure, effectively de-escalate challenging interactions, and provide clear guidance in stressful situations. Strong phone skills and confidence navigating both in-person and remote customer service. Reliability and consistent follow-through in a fast-paced environment. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in documentation, data entry, and regulatory compliance. Resourcefulness in understanding regulatory frameworks and applying rules and statutes. Required Minimum Qualifications Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate. Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of clerical experience including one (1) year of experience performing specialized and/or technical office support work. Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
