Description of Work The Curator of Education is responsible for creation and execution of all educational activities, programs, and special events for the Museum of the Cape Fear main building, the historic 1897 Poe House, and other areas of the complex. This position recruits and oversees the museums volunteer program and may supervise temporary employees. This position reports to the Business Officer. This position is responsible for overseeing the interpretive goals for daily programming and special events; creating yearly calendar of events; developing, implementing and evaluating in-house and outreach programs. This includes submitting yearly budgets for programs. This position is knowledgeable of museum standards and practices in the areas of interpretation, visitor services, program development, and volunteer management. Other functions of this position include grant writing and seeking creative collaborative partnerships. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Manage all educational activities at the Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex Recruitment, training and oversight of the museums volunteer program. Development of educational opportunities for educators and K-12 students. Provides educational content for website and social media accounts. Develops and conducts the museums Summer Camp. Bachelors degree in Art History, Biology, Botany, Conservation, Education, History or Zoology from an appropriately accredited institution AND four years of museum or related work, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Its mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret cultural history of southern North Carolina and the state for the education and enjoyment of the present and future generations.
