The position is responsible for performing skilled maintenance & custodial activities related to County Facilities, including performing work in secured correctional/deletional facilities( jail) and operating related equipment. (This excludes Yakima County Sheriff's Office and Department of Corrections) Responsibilities: Essential Duties: Sanitizes restrooms, cleans and sanitizes kitchens, prepares chemical solutions applying safety precautions. Performs cleaning activities such as sweeping; vacuuming, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing and sealing floors, carpet extracting, fixture dusting and emptying of trash cans. Performs a variety of routine activities in operating cleaning equipment such as floor buffer, power floor scrubber, and vacuum. Performs operational checks and reports needed repairs. Disposes of waste in a safe and appropriate manner, places waste in recycling containers or regular dumpsters. Opens and closes facilities; attends pre-shift staff meetings and safety trainings. Other duties required including responding to customer inquiries and assisting with less routine maintenance tasks. Education & Experience: High School or (G.E.D.) AND three (3) years of experience performing building or facilities janitorial work. Required: valid WA State Drivers License and proof of insurance, if requested; and, successful completion of a criminal background investigation and general employment verification. Equipment Used: passenger vehicles, brooms, mops, dusters, buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, small pressure washers, dilution stations, PPE, and small hand or power tools. Use of communication equipment such as radios, computers, and telephones. Working Condition: This position is rated as Heavy Work: Exerting up to or in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work is performed out in the field. Environment: excessive noise, exposure to weather, extreme temperatures, moving/mechanical parts, pathogen exposure, vibration, travel, multiple work locations, work in locked down facilty(s), duties are performed in County Facilities at night and in a secure correctional facilities, may work outside of standard business hours and locations, and may be exposed to hostile/angry individuals. Physical Demands: bending, carrying, handling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, kneeling, hearing talking, and visual acuity. Intellectual Demands: ability to multitask, confidentiality, ability to work under pressure, ability to articulate and communicate information in conversations, ability to follow written instruction, and ability to follow verbal instruction. Knowledge: cleaning equipment, materials and techniques; basic equipment use and maintenance techniques; safety precautions related to facilities maintenance; customer Service techniques; and, work planning and time management techniques. Skills: performing routine maintenance activities using hand and power tools; operating vehicles requiring less than a commercial drivers license; applying customer service techniques; calculating measurements; organizing and planning daily work; oral and written communication sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction; and, establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships at all organizational levels and with the public.
