Full Job Description

Recovery 1, a Waste Connections company, is looking for hardworking and safetyminded Recycling Sorters to join our team in Tacoma, Washington. Many of our employees speak Spanish, so bilingual individuals are encouraged to apply. This position is an important part of our recycling process, helping make sure materials are sorted correctly, safely, and efficiently. Schedules and Pay Day Shift: 6:00 AM 4:30 PM Pay Range: $18.00 $20.00 per hour Second Shift: 4:30 PM 2:00 AM Pay Range: $19.00 $21.00 per hour All shifts have potential for overtime Key Responsibilities Sort and separate recyclable materials such as wood, metal, plastic, cardboard, and construction debris from a conveyor line. Identify and remove nonrecyclable or contaminated materials. Maintain a steady work pace to keep up with line speed. Ensure sorted materials are placed into the correct bins or areas. General Labor & Facility Support Assist with cleanup around work zones, platforms, and walkways. Help operate basic equipment such as brooms, rakes, and hand tools. Support team leads with material flow, staging, and organizing work areas. Perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the shift. Safety & Compliance Follow all site safety rules and workplace procedures. Wear required PPE at all times (gloves, hard hat, safety glasses, highvisibility vest, respiratory protection when required). Immediately report unsafe conditions or equipment issues. Working Conditions This role takes place in an industrial outdoor recycling environment. Conditions include: Outdoor work with yearround exposure to heat, cold, wind, rain, and varying weather conditions. Exposure to dust, odors, and debris typical of a recycling facility. Presence of wildlife common in recycling yards, such as insects or rodents. Standing and moving for 10+ hours per shift with limited sitting. Regular twisting, bending, pulling, and reaching. Repeated lifting and moving of materials up to 50 pounds unassisted. Work performed near heavy equipment, conveyor belts, and industrial machinery. Qualifications Required: Ability to perform physically demanding work safely for the full duration of the shift. Ability to follow verbal instructions and adhere to safety requirements. Ability to reliably commute to the Tacoma facility and work the assigned shift. This is a safetysensitive position under Washington State law. After a conditional offer of employment, candidates must successfully complete a drug test, including marijuana, and a background check. Preferred (Not Required): Previous experience in recycling, construction labor, warehouse, industrial labor, or similar environments. Experience working around machinery or conveyor systems. Bilingual English/Spanish skills are helpful in this workplace, but not required.
