The City of Aurora's recreation division is seeking a Personal Trainer to join our team. If you're passionate about designing and leading personalized exercise programs for individuals and small groups with varying fitness levels, this is your chance to shine. You'll conduct assessments, make recommendations for wellbeing improvements, and effectively communicate with clients and the Fitness Specialist. We need someone with knowledge of diverse exercises, fitness equipment, and the ability to modify plans based on client needs or potential issues. If you're motivated, possess excellent communication skills, and hold the required Personal Trainer/Group Fitness Instructor and CPR/AED certifications, we want to hear from you. Be prepared for flexible shifts, including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends, and the opportunity to work indoors or outdoors. ** This job announcement is to collect candidate applications for current and future Personal Trainers. Applicants will be contacted only when a position need is identified, and qualifications match the position's needs. ** Hiring Salary is $22.00/hour. This position is classified as VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee), where the selected candidate will work less than 29 hours per week. This position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act. The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications throughout the year; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice. Plan, design and lead personal training clients through exercise for the City of Auroras recreation division. PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for creating own exercise program based on needs of clients with varying levels of fitness on an individual basis and a small group setting Conduct assessments and make recommendations for improvements to client health and wellbeing Communicate effectively with client(s) and Fitness Specialist Possess knowledge of fitness equipment and appropriate use Keep up with the new trends of fitness and remain current on certifications Modify exercise plans based on needs, potential injuries or health issues Oversee the use of fitness equipment to ensure clients exercise properly and safely Perform minor first aid and respond to emergencies if needed Effectively motivate participants and clients Available to work on early or late shifts and on weekends Perform additional duties as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Education: High School Diploma; degree in Kinesiology or Sports Science preferred Experience: At least 1 year of experience teaching fitness classes/personal training. Knowledge: Knowledge of diverse exercises and how to adjust plans according to each clients needs Ability to instruct and motivate people Abilities: Instruct and motivate group fitness participants Maintain a safe environment Excellent communication skills Teamwork Licenses and Certifications Required: Personal Trainer/Group Fitness Instructor from accredited institution CPR/AED certification WORKING CONDITIONS Frequent - 2.6 hours to 5.5 hours per shift Essential Personnel: When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel. Physical Demands: Medium work that involves moving no more than 50 pounds at a time Frequent lifting, carrying, walking and standing May require frequent pushing, pulling, bending and stooping. Teaching of fitness classes as scheduled. Work Environment: Works primarily indoors but may work outdoors assisting with a program or outreach events in varying weather conditions Equipment Used: Uses standard office equipment including personal computer and common office software such as email, internet, Word, Excel and menu driven databases as a part of the Library automated systems This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
