Job Description Summary: To rate freight bills as necessary according to published pricing agreements and ensure accurate billing. Critical Job Functions: Use central auto-rating system to calculate and verify rates on freight bills. Manually apply rates to hand-rate freight bills by interpreting and applying provisions of published pricing agreements and calculating accessorial charges. Assist billing staff by providing classifications for commodities according to the NMFC. Coordinate with Central Billing Supervisors to ensure all rating will be completed before revenue is processed each day (approximately 5am). Communicate with terminal personnel regarding various issues with specific freight bills. Process reweighs and inspections from the terminals. Other duties as assigned. Receives very general guidance with respect to overall objectives; work is usually quite independent of others; operates within department policy guidelines using independent judgement in achieving assigned objectives. Job Requirements: Experience with bills of lading, freight bills and tariffs are required. A High School degree, personal computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel, basic math skills including working with fractions and simple algebraic equations, and excellent customer service skills are required. Experience with an LTL freight carrier is preferred with rating and classification experience helpful. Relies on written and verbal communication. Ability to read and interpret documents such as bill of lading, pricing contracts and tariffs. Communicates internally with entire corporate office, externally with Roadrunner customers and RRTS terminals. Basic personal computer skills including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Proficient typing (ability to type 40 words per minute), filing and ten key skills. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals and use of simple algebraic equations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to prioritize tasks. Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Ability to prioritize and organize assignments. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and lifts objects up to 15 lbs. Work Environment: The noise level is moderate based on general conversation tones, ringing phones and laser printer operation. Work in well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation. Compensation: The estimated compensation for this role is $18.00 per hour.
