Agency Dept of Health and Human Services Division Child and Family Well Being Job Classification Title Early Intervention Service Coordinator (S) Position Number 60040465 Grade NC07 About Us The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. Description of Work Early Intervention Service Coordinators (EISCs) are the heart of Early Intervention! They provide service coordination for children in the North Carolina Infant-Toddler Program (NC ITP) and support to their families and caregivers. Research shows that birth to three is a critical period for working with families to support their competence and confidence as their childs first and most important teacher. EISC duties include: - Working with families and team members to develop functional Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs). - Working with multi-disciplinary teams to determine families needs for supports and services. - Conducting home visits. - Coordinating services, such as speech and physical therapy. - Arranging and monitoring other early intervention services. - Planning for transition to other services at age three. The North Carolina Early Intervention Section (NC EIS) is a part of the Division of Child and Family Well-Being. The NC EIS is the lead agency for the NC ITP which provides supports and services for families and their children, birth to three, who have developmental delays and/or disabilities. Children's Developmental Services Agencies (CDSAs) are the local agencies that implement the NC ITP across North Carolina, working with local service providers to help families help their children succeed. This Early Intervention Service Coordinator position is located at the Onslow County Office of the New Bern CDSA. The New Bern CDSA serves children and families that reside in Carteret, Craven, Jones, Lenoir, Onslow, and Pamlico Counties. This position will require traveling in this six-county catchment area. The Division of Child and Family Well-Being focuses on supporting whole child and family health and well-being for North Carolinians. This division works to ensure that North Carolinas children grow up safe, healthy and thriving in nurturing and resilient families and communities. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Grade Range $37,377 - $65,408 Recruitment Range $37,377 - $58,510 Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Experience working with children in the age range Birth to age 3 and their families, including children with developmental delays. Knowledge of young child development, including developmental milestones. Experience working with and collaborating with families and other professionals. Knowledge of evidence-based practices used in working with young children and families, such as natural learning environment practices and caregiver coaching. Management Preferences Bachelors degree in Special Education, Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education, Psychology from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of professional experience working with the population served; or Bachelors degree in human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of professional experience working with the population served; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a bachelors degree which allows certification as an Infant-Toddler-Family Specialist.
