Position Title: Building Service Worker Job Description: POSITION TITLE: Building Service Worker STATUS: Part Time DEPARTMENT: Facility Services DIVISION: Administrative Services CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt UNION: Facility Services-SEIU REPORTS TO: Custodial Superintendent PLACEMENT: Buildings and Grounds, Level 1A HIRING RANGE: $17.97 per hour; $18.28 per hour after 90-day probationary period Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. POSITION SUMMARY Under direct supervision, performs a wide variety of custodial duties in order to provide a clean, orderly and safe environment; and performs related work as required. Displays knowledge of safe operation of equipment while maintaining the level of safety required and exhibited by JJC and OSHA requirements. Receives daily work assignments, operational direction, and task priorities from the Custodial Superintendent, Night Custodial Supervisor, and Lead Custodians in support of departmental operations. This part time position is considered an entry level position with direct supervision. Although previous custodial experience is preferred, all new employees will be trained on duties and expectations. To be considered qualified for future promotions, candidates must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to perform essential job duties and responsibilities with limited supervision, meet attendance expectations, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and positively contribute to the departments climate. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Clean and sanitize areas in accordance with required cleaning methods. Areas may include classrooms, offices, washrooms, etc. 2. Assist in the moving and set up of equipment and furniture for events and other general needs of the campus. 3. Assist in shoveling the sidewalks/clearing snow and other related seasonal custodial care around the exterior of the campus buildings. 4. Take classes as offered for custodial duties or as required for college employees. 5. Observe safety standards and practices and outlined by JJC and OSHA. 6. Report all damage to the Lead Custodian as noticed in assigned area or building. 7. Safe operation and general maintenance of equipment. 8. Participate in achieving departmental and college goals and objectives. 9. Demonstrate an ability and willingness to be trained on and complete special project work to include, but not limited to, carpet/fabric care, VCT care, LVT care, and window care under direct supervision. 10. Perform other related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. High school diploma or GED equivalent. 2. Willingness to learn procedures. 3. Must pass physical examination. 4. Ability to follow specific verbal and/or written instructions. 5. Courteous, dependable, and ability to work well with diverse population. 6. Ability to lift, carry, stack, and maneuver objects on a regular basis with a maximum weight of 50 lbs. 7. Be willing and able to go up in an open lift for window cleaning to heights of approximately 25 feet. 8. Must obtain within six (6) months of hire and maintain a valid Drivers license and be able to operate a college motor vehicle. 9. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence. 10. Demonstrated commitment to the colleges core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Previous custodial experience preferred, but not required. 2. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency. 3. Demonstrated multicultural competence. PHYSICAL DEMANDS - EQUIPMENT AND/OR MACHINES USED Must become familiar with and able to use the following: scrubbers, buffers, burnishers, small and large vacuums, personnel lift for window washing, pick-up truck with power lift gate; trash compactor, hand carts, and all related equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS 1. Work is indoors/outdoors. 2. The employee must be able to work safely in an environment containing caustic chemicals, cleaning materials, dust and noise. 3. Frequently required to work under inclement weather conditions. 4. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud. Be willing and able to go up in an open lift to heights of approximately 30 feet. 5. Display knowledge of safe operation of equipment while maintaining the level of safety required and exhibited by JJC and OSHA requirements. WORK SCHEDULE 1. Be available for any of the 3 shifts at any given time. 2. Any shift changes will be communicated via 2 weeks notice. 3. Ninety (90) calendar day probationary period.
