Job Description Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Student Worker - Library Assistant II. The University Library is a network of services, spaces, and expertise dedicated to leveraging evidence-based practices to create exemplary learning experiences. The Library Assistant II position supports this mission by facilitating the use of library resources, technologies, and services for students, faculty, and staff, and actively contributing to the advancement of library workflows and programs. This role requires a significant level of autonomy, initiative, and responsibility. Core Responsibilities: Access Services Completes specialized training and uses multiple library systems to accurately perform circulation and service desk functions. Trains, mentors, and supports new library student workers. Independently staffs the library service desk and provides advanced customer service support to patrons. Processes incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan materials using an interlibrary loan management system. Applies judgment and enforces library policies and procedures to resolve routine to moderately complex service issues. Collaborates with library faculty and staff to improve service workflows and the patron experience. Demonstrates initiative in managing service demands during busy periods. Independently prioritizes and completes assigned projects and makes decisions regarding work assignments as needed. Participates in library assessment processes that involve research, testing, and evaluation. Maintains a high level of professionalism at all times. Technology & Technical Support Provides tier 1 technology, phone, online and walk-in support for Nevada State University students, faculty, and staff including: Ticket creation Basic troubleshooting, training, and configuration issues related to hardware, software and campus network services Basic database troubleshooting Outreach & Events Collaborates with library faculty and staff to design, create, and promote outreach and programming materials. Assists with the development of outreach programming, events, and workshops. Represents the library at campus events by tabling and engaging with the campus community to promote library services and resources. Research & Information Assistance Employs research techniques and data interpretation to help patrons identify and evaluate information resources. Assists in the creation of research guides, tutorials, or instructional materials related to library services and research skills. Assesses patron research needs and makes informed decisions about when to refer users to librarian consultations. Communicates library research practices, tools, and policies clearly and accurately to patrons. Minimum Qualifications: Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Must be enrolled as a degree seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester at Nevada State. Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas). Customer service experience, and/or proven ability to work with the public. Ability to work evenings and/or weekends. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, learn and apply procedures. Ability to work independently and manage multiple duties. Ability to operate and troubleshoot standard office machines such as personal computers, scanners, fax machines, copiers, shredders, and calculators. Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Canvas/WebCampus. Preferred Qualifications: Excellent communication skills and a professional demeanor. A minimum of one (1) year customer service experience and/or experience in the hospitality or retail sector. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take initiative in generating ideas to enhance library services. Work Hours: Student employees can work up to 19.5 hours per week. Hourly Rate: $14.00 per hour.
