What We Want We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Technician I to join our team, where you will assist in the treatment of animals, support professional veterinary staff, and help maintain a clean, wellorganized, and efficient service environment. The ideal candidate holds an Associate degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science, or a related fieldor an equivalent combination of education and experienceand brings basic computer skills, a solid understanding of medical math, and the ability to safely and humanely handle feline and canine patients using fearfree and felinefriendly methods. Success in this role requires strong professional communication skills within a veterinary medical teaching setting, along with the ability to plan, organize, and collaborate effectively while contributing to a positive and patientcentered care environment. What You Need To Know Salary: $19.00/hourly Special Note: A cover letter and resume are strongly recommended. Other Requirements and Factors: This role works to cover shifts, or take emergency call, on evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Essential Duties/Tasks Anesthesia and Surgical Assistance Administers anesthetics, maintains anesthesia, and accurately calculates drug doses. Performs perioperative monitoring and care, including intubation of patient animals, aseptic preparation of patient, monitoring their physiologic status during anesthesia, recovery of anesthetized patient. Maintains accurate anesthesia records and accounting of inventory use. Equipment and Inventory Management Maintains a supply inventory and replenishes stock within the assigned service. Performs maintenance service checks and minor repairs to assigned equipment. Maintains equipment within the service area to include all assigned assets. Prepares and maintains surgical instruments, equipment, supplies, and surgical suites for aseptic surgical procedures. Patient Care and Monitoring Assist with administration of patient medication and diet as prescribed. Assists professional staff to perform critical and intensive nursing care or life-sustaining emergency care as needed. Performs pain score assessments. Provide skilled assistance to research personnel in proper handling of animals and research methodologies. Laboratory and Diagnostic Procedures Performs or assists with the collection of patients blood, urine, and tissues and ensures the proper submission procedure. Performs laboratory tests Assists staff, clinicians, and students with laboratory sample collection. Qualifications Required Education and Experience: Associate's degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science, a related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience. No experience required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Basic computer skills Demonstrates knowledge of medical math Able to appropriately handle and restrain feline and canine patients with methods that are both fear free and/or feline friendly. Ability to communicate professionally, effectively, and positively with all individuals in a veterinary medical teaching hospital setting. Ability to plan and organize effectively. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Additional Information Machines and Equipment: Fluid infusion pumps & syringe pumps: 4 hours Oxygen equipment & anesthetic machines: 4 hours Laboratory equipment (NOVA, centrifuge, etc.): 2 hours Monitoring equipment (ECG, Doppler, etc.): 4 hours Computer: 4 hours Resuscitation equipment: 4 hours Stat lab equipment trouble shooting and maintenance: 2 hours Why Texas A&M University?
