Salary: $20.36 per hour, DOE Job Summary: A Maintenance Technician is involved and accountable in all aspects of maintenance for parks and recreational facilities. Work involves driving city vehicles, hauling city trailers and equipment, and skillful operation of a variety of hand and power tools and power equipment. Maintenance Technicians work under the supervision of the Parks Maintenance Manager or designated Crew Chief who issues written or oral work orders and inspects work frequently. A Maintenance Technician will frequently provide direction and train seasonal employees and work with volunteers or court appointed persons. In any assignment, a Maintenance Technician must perform work safely and efficiently, many times under adverse weather conditions. General cleanup and maintenance of parks, sports fields, and other park and recreational facilities; Facilities trash collection, restroom cleaning and prep for picnic shelter reservation; Performs maintenance tasks; mowing, weeding, raking, sweeping, planting, pruning, fertilization; Maintains and operates light equipment; Spray and fertilize turf and trees; Responsible for tools and machinery utilized in the course of work assignments; Maintain irrigation systems by repairing broken irrigation heads, valves, and lines; Snow removal with hand tools and power equipment/ plows, brooms and trucks; Operates city trucks power tools and equipment; Basic knowledge of irrigation principles and equipment; Perform periodic sprinkler checks, repairs and installations; Perform spring startups and winterizations; Fabricate and repair facilities and amenities; Order supplies and maintain schedules; Conduct inspections and perform hardscape repairs; Supervise and train, seasonal and part time staff; Perform on the job training to seasonal or part-time parks maintenance workers; Oversee projects and manage day-to-day park operations; Provide direction and oversight to volunteers and court appointed individuals; Review contracted services with account managers and make recommendations; Must be available for on-call, holiday and weekend work; Building maintenance, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry; Occasional use of oxygen and acetylene/arc welding equipment to repair or fabricate equipment; May repair, overhaul and reassemble gasoline powered engines; Perform other duties as assigned. Job Specifications: High school education or equivalent; Minimum 1 Year of experience as a Maintenance Technician or combination of experience and training which demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work. Licensing and Certification: Must hold a valid State of Idaho Drivers License & safe driving record; Possession of valid drivers license and safe driving record; Current Idaho Professional Applicator License with Following Endorsements: LS, OH or obtain within six months from the Idaho Department of Agriculture and maintain CEUs; -CO: Applicator Core Competency; Complete test with passing grade; -OP: Ornamental Pest; Complete test with passing grade; -City of Meridian Irrigation Technician: Pass exam I plus field test.
