We have an opportunity for an Automation & Controls Engineer to join our Chardon, OH team. You will drive hands-on projects involving PLCs, robotics, and industrial control systemsdelivering real gains in efficiency, safety, and quality. This is a high-impact, visible role with end-to-end project ownership and strong cross-functional collaboration. You will also grow your skills, influence long-term automation strategy, and build a career path in engineering leadership or advanced manufacturing innovation. You will: Lead automation initiatives by designing, developing, and integrating computer-controlled electronic and mechanical systems for manufacturing, processing, and production equipment. Support new product and process development by applying advanced control systems and electro-mechanical design concepts. Assist with assembly, testing, validation, and documentation of new equipment and products. Own and manage automation projects from concept through execution, including developing project plans with resources, timelines, and budgets. Ensure projects align with the sites long-term automation and technology roadmap. Design, program, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and robotic systems (e.g., Fanuc) to improve equipment performance and reliability. Analyze and optimize production workflows for efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness using lean tools and data-driven decision-making. Collaborate cross-functionally with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to integrate automation systems into existing operations. Drive continuous improvement through kaizen events, lean work cell design, and cost-reduction initiatives. Support standardization and documentation by developing and maintaining manufacturing documentation such as SOPs, routers, and work instructions. Ensure safety and compliance by conducting risk assessments and applying relevant industry standards and protocols. Key Qualifications: Have earned a bachelors (B.S.) degree in electrical, mechanical, industrial engineering, or related technical field. Have 3+ years of hands-on experience working with automation systems in manufacturing, warehouse, or logistics environmentssuch as PLC programming, HMI design, or robotic system integration. Proficiency with industrial control platforms such as Allen-Bradley (Rockwell), Siemens, or Fanuc; experience with troubleshooting and optimizing control systems and automated equipment. Familiarity with robotic systems used in production or warehouse automation, including pick-and-place, material handling, or AGVs (automated guided vehicles). Experience applying Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement principles (e.g., kaizen, 5S, standard work). Strong project management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to lead initiatives and collaborate across departments. Effective communication and presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences. Working knowledge of automation safety standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA 79, ISO 13849). Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-mix environment with both legacy and modern systems. Compensation: For this full-time position working at this location, the anticipated annualized base pay range will be from $71000 - $131800 / year. At Pentair, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the pay range. Pentair considers various factors in determining actual compensation for this position at the expected location. Actual compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, work location, and other relevant business or organizational needs. This position may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as an annual incentive bonus.
