VCA Blum Animal Hospital is seeking a full-time Veterinary Assistant for our support team. Come join our growing animal hospital with 6 veterinarians and over 35 support staff! Summary: Our Veterinary Assistants support our veterinarians and technicians in all aspects of animal care by restraining our patients during physical exams, treatments, and procedures, and providing treatments as directed by a veterinarian. They are an advocate of our patients to ensure they receive the proper care in a safe and comfortable manner. Responsibilities (included but not limited to): Assist our veterinarians and technicians in carrying, handling, and restraining animals during physical exams, treatments, and procedures Adhere to strict instruction in regards to walking and feeding hospitalized patients Assist in the proper protocol for handling humane euthanasia patients Assist in accurately filling prescription medications and diets Extensive cleaning and maintenance of the hospital, including treatment areas, exam rooms, surgical suite, and reception area Lab sample collection and processing Qualifications: Energetic, personable, and people-oriented Experience working with animals and confidence in the physical handling of dogs and cats Professional, task-oriented, and pays good attention to detail Ability to work a flexible schedule, must demonstrate reliable attendance Must be able to stand for extended periods of time; standing, kneeling, and lifting of 40 lbs General physical capability to work with animals over 50 pounds is required The ability to draw blood and collect urine is a plus!
