Department BSD PAT - Raman Lab About the Department The Pathology Department at the University of Chicago is an interdisciplinary department that studies the pathogenesis of disease across different disease types. Faculty include basic scientists, clinicians, and translational researchers. The Raman Laboratory is an interdisciplinary lab that uses statistical approaches for addressing biological problems. Current applications include designing synthetic microbiomes for therapeutic purposes as well as in-depth data analysis of high-content biological data obtained from patients. This at-will position is wholly or partially funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the contract. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds and satisfactory job performance. Job Summary The Research Analyst will support ongoing studies in the Raman Lab and will work under the direction of Dr. Arjun Raman and his Lab Manager to assist in these and other related projects. This role includes maintaining lab operations, performing basic and advanced technical procedures, managing bacterial cultures, and contributing to data collection and analysis. Responsibilities Provides technical support for microbiology experiments including but not limited to bacterial culture, building and combining microbial consortia, testing consortia for desired test functions, analyzing model output, and troubleshooting. Prepares reagents, maintains lab equipment, and manages biological specimens. Ensures research activities comply with institutional, state, and federal guidelines. Maintains accurate lab records and organizes data for internal and external records, presentations, and publications. Participates in lab meetings, literature reviews, and other scientific presentations. Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project. Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents. Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator. Maintains recruiting and scheduling research subjects; assisting with developing or amending study protocols; assisting with developing data collection tools; assisting with building databases; and providing general administrative support. Has general awareness in research techniques or methods, regulatory policies and procedures, and relevant scientific field. Performs other related work as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field. Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline. Certifications: --- Preferred Qualifications Education: Masters degree. Experience: Familiarity with standard lab techniques including but not limited to bacterial culture. Technical Skills or Knowledge: Basic understanding of standard biosafety practices. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for data entry and analysis. Proficient with coding. Preferred Competencies Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities. Communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a team environment. Work independently and proactively with minimal supervision. Working Conditions Lab environment (BSL2). Anaerobic chamber. Mouse work. Weekend/Evening hours as needed for experiments.
