Join the Nebraska Department of Education as a Service Desk Specialist. This position serves on a small team that acts as a liaison between system developers, data experts, and the schools who use Nebraska's educational data systems every day. In this role, you'll provide customer service and technical support to school and district staff, helping them navigate reporting requirements, troubleshoot issues, and identify solutions related to student, staff, and financial data collections. We're looking for someone who is curious, resourceful, analytical, detail oriented, and committed to excellent customer service and data quality. This role is a natural fit for Data Stewards, Student Information System specialists, state reporting coordinators, and other education data professionals who enjoy solving problems, building relationships, and turning challenges into solutions. Pay Grade 5: $25.287/hour ($25.603/hour after pay structure increases on June 29, 2026) This rate is based upon available budget funds; any offer will be made at this rate. Uses ticket tracking system to input, document, and complete work requests. Contacts school districts and educational entities to discuss their data, potential corrective actions, and follow up. Reviews and updates guidance documents related to application functionality. Supports training regarding the service desk, and assists with development and delivery of training. Maintains regular & reliable attendance, travels independently, and works in a variety of settings. Working Conditions and Travel: This position requires approximately 90% of work time spent in an office environment; the remaining 10% is spent traveling or working in alternative sites such as off-site conferences and meetings. There is also approximately five days of overnight travel per year. Requirements / Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience related to the essential functions of the position. Any equivalent education and\or work experience may be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualifications of the position. Preferred Qualifications: Associate degree or postsecondary coursework in Business Administration, Education, or related fields and at least two years of experience working within a PreK-12 school, Educational Service Unit, or other education-related environment including experience supporting education data. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and experience working within a service desk/ticket system.
