Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) provides a broad range of programs, services, facilities, and park amenities within the City and County of Denver. The Citys park system encompasses more than 290 urban parks, parkways, and natural areas, totaling over 7,000 acres. The Department boasts more than 14,000 acres of pristine mountain parks, eight golf courses, 24 lakes, more than 87,000 park trees, 187,000 right-of-way trees, over 90 miles of off-street trails, 14 off-leash dog parks, and over 300 athletic fields. The recreation system serves approximately 2.25 million visitors annually. It includes 30 active recreation centers, 16 outdoor pools, and 16 current indoor pools. In addition, the Department offers programs focused on outdoor education, youth and adult sports leagues, and out of school programs offered in conjunction with Denver Public Schools. What We Offer The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $60,064.00 - $69,824.00/year, based on education and experience. What Youll Do Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Staff Accountant. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for those looking to build a strong foundation in governmental accounting and grow into a professional accounting career within the City and County of Denver. In this role, youll apply generally accepted accounting principles to prepare, record, and review financial information while receiving comprehensive training in fiscal laws, rules, regulations, and procedures. Youll gain hands-on experience in public sector finance and work alongside a supportive team committed to your development. Responsibilities Gain hands-on experience with foundational accounting tasks by performing routine assignments using established procedures, while learning to interpret and apply fiscal laws, rules, and regulations. Develop core accounting skills under expert guidance through regular reconciliations, ledger maintenance, journal entries, inventory controls, and budgeting. Contribute to problem-solving and process improvement by assisting in the review of ledgers to identify data issues, coding errors, or revenue/expenditure trends, and supporting corrective actions. Build proficiency in municipal reporting by preparing revenue, expense, budget to actuals, and payroll reports. Develop relationships by communicating with department heads and other personnel throughout DPR and other city Agencies. Perform other duties as assigned.
