Agency Adult Correction Division COO - OPS - Institutions Operations Job Classification Title Correctional Sergeant II (S) Position Number 60068009 Grade NC08 About Us The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Description of Work Salary Range-$37,782-$66,120 ***This is an INTERNAL POSTING open ONLY for current employees of the NC Department of Adult Correction. *** This is a position at Piedmont Correctional Institution located in Salisbury, N.C. (Rowan County), which is a Medium male prison facility housing 800 inmates. Work in this class involves first-line supervision to Correctional Officer IIs in medium-custody facilities or institutions, increasing the custody and security coverage. Positions assign lower-level custody staff to a particular area or post. Employees oversee officer activities and performance and ensure that the custody, security and welfare of inmates is maintained. Employees arrange work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy. Positions may serve as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC). Positions report directly to a Correctional Lieutenant II and/or the Correctional Assistant Superintendent. At this level, employees may supervise inmates in restrictive housing. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Management Preferences: Documented knowledge of Facility Operations. Documented knowledge of Prisons' Policy and Procedures. **Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job. ** Necessary Special Qualifications: ***This is an INTERNAL POSTING open ONLY for current employees of the NC Department of Adult Correction. *** This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC08. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result. Minimum Education and Experience Some state job postings say you can qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience. High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Officer, or two years of experience as Correctional Officer II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
