Annual Salary: $58,305.00 - $62,400.00 Hourly: $29.90 - $32.00 Department: Police, Public Safety Division: Forensic Services & Evidence FLSA: Non-Exempt Job Description: In this role, you will investigate and document crime scenes, collect and preserve evidence, and recover latent fingerprints. Examples of Duties: Respond to the scenes of crimes, fires and accidents and determine the best methods to employ for criminal investigation. Perform all techniques required to document a crime scene including digital photography, videography, forensic mapping, sketching and note taking. Perform all techniques required to search for and recover evidence at a crime scene including search by alternate and ultraviolet light sources, collection of biological fluids, trace evidence and gunshot residue, tool mark, tire and footwear impressions, metal detection and laser trajectory determinations. Respond to autopsies to perform postmortem fingerprinting and collect evidence Perform latent recovery work in the field. Operate crime scene equipment including the drying cabinets, alternate light source, MVac, scene lights, electrostatic dust lifter and trajectory tools. Prepare timely, accurate and comprehensive reports of crime scene investigations. Operate computers and relevant software applications. Follow appropriate procedures to ensure the security and integrity of evidence. Seek opportunities to improve the effectiveness of crime scene operations Testify in court concerning crime scene investigations. Performs other duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor Degree (BA/BS) or equivalent combination of skill and experience. Valid drivers license. Knowledge of film and digital photography, latent recovery techniques, and crime scene processing technologies. Knowledge of criminal investigation, rules of evidence, and laws governing the working jurisdiction. Ability to prepare comprehensive and well-written reports. Preferred Qualifications: Experience and/or training in crime scene investigation. Crime Scene certification by the International Association for Identification. Other Necessary Requirements: In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the Citys needs. May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
