Grade 6 (Salaried) Position Description: The Researcher will perform experiments and participate in research investigating the mechanisms by which glial cells communicate with neurons in order to shape neural circuit development, function and complex behaviors. In particular, the work of Dr. Naveens lab is interested in understanding the neural circuit and immune basis of repetitive behaviors, anxiety and social behaviors and investigating the molecular mechanisms that mediate and modulate these complex behaviors in typically developing individuals and those with neurodevelopmental disorders. The Researcher in conjunction with the lab team will study the impact of environmental toxins, microbiome, maternal stress and maternal immune activation on neural-glia communication and how differences in communication leads to Autism and Autism spectrum disorders. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Experiments and Research Work Conduct bench experiments, including but not limited to Genotyping, PCR, gel electrophoresis as and when needed. Performing brain sectioning using cryostat and vibratome, including Confocal imaging on brain slices and other studies as needed. When appropriate performing or conducting in vivo surgeries, viral injection and cannula implantation for optogenetics and lens implantation for calcium imaging. Sample preparation for FACS sorting and Omics studies. Intracellular and extracellular electrophysiological recordings is preferred but not mandatory. Maintains lab notebooks with dates and details of all the experiments. Performs experiment related duties as assigned by the supervisor on day-to-day basis. Chemical Handling and Preparation Handling and preparing Reagent (solutions and drugs) safely and in accordance with proper lab protocol. Maintaining, stocking and organizing lab supplies as necessary. Mouse Models and Behaviors Safely and humanely handling Mice for mouse model experiments/procedures. Behavioral assays (Repetitive behaviors, anxiety, social behaviors and operant conditioning). High quality in vivo surgeries for viral injections, optogenetics, calcium imaging and two photon in vivo imaging in brain. Histology and Imaging Utilize Immunohistochemistry and Fluorescent and Confocal microscopy as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications 5-7 years of lab research experience or a PhD in biological sciences with a preference for either Neuroscience or bioengineering sciences background. Successful survival surgeries on mice, Mouse behavioral experiment, mouse handling experience. Competencies Time and Attendance - Adheres to attendance requirements of the job. Target Compensation Maximum: $79,540.00 Target Compensation Minimum: $52,993.00 Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
