Employment Type Full Time Job Summary Hiring Range: $21.75 to $24.08 per hour depending on qualifications and experience Our City of Olathe libraries are vibrant community-centered organizations committed to fostering learning, creativity, and engagement. We are seeking a creative and energetic Library Programming Specialist to join our team and help shape our programming efforts to inspire and connect with our patrons. The primary functions of the Program Specialist are to provide front-line assistance, programming, and outreach for library customers of all ages, especially teens. The successful candidate is enthusiastic about supporting our teen customers along their journeys of discovery, connecting them to information, creating inspiring programming, and helping support the management of the Teen Zone gaming computers and consoles. This position will support library outreach events, including driving the Mobile Outreach Vehicle. For more details, review the full job details and requirements below. The Library Programming Specialist performs front-line assistance, programming, and outreach for library customers of all ages. They connect with library customers along their journeys of discovery, inspiring personal and community growth through life-long learning while demonstrating a passion for assisting others and displaying an innovative approach in connecting library customers to information. Key Responsibilities Provides efficient, courteous public service to a diverse customer population and presents a positive library image in attitude, appearance, and duty performance; demonstrates a passion for assisting others and innovatively connecting library information to customers. Plans and implements exceptional library programming to meet the objectives of the library and community; actively engages with the community by representing the library at outreach events and programs held off-site. Collaborates as an effective team member with staff and volunteers with a whatever-it-takes work ethic and an excellent customer service attitude, providing information and resources to customers; maintains appropriate confidentiality in customer and staff interactions. Performs specialized computer functions requiring advanced technical skills; troubleshoots equipment and facility issues, resolving minor problems independently and reporting larger concerns appropriately. Assumes responsibility as the professional in charge of the building and service area, overseeing staff, monitoring library activities, delegating responsibilities, enforcing library policies, securing the building, and ensuring smooth operations. Qualifications Experience: Three years of customer service experience in library services is required.. Education: A bachelors degree in library science is required. Experience can substitute for education. Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver's license and favorable driving record are required.
