Job Description Summary The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be located in the Department of Veterinary Integrative Biosciences and the Center for Comparative Genomics, a new campus initiative to expand faculty and research teams focused on basic and applied aspects of genomic research within domestic and natural populations. This position is within the Murphy Lab at Texas A&M University and is broadly focused on the genomic architecture of reproductive isolation in mammals. Essential Duties/Tasks Bioinformatics: Carry out bioinformatic analysis of mammalian genome sequence data and generating novel genome assemblies. Use computer software for genome assembly, sequence alignment, and comparative genomic analyses. Develop new software for comparative genomics and phylogenomics. Lab Management and Student Training: Provides general lab management and supervision of undergraduate students and research assistants. Grant Writing and Preparation: Develop and prepare text and budgetary information for grant proposals. Review draft proposals for accuracy and content Qualifications Required Education PhD in Genetics and Genomics or closely related area Required Experience None. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. with relevant experience in whole genome analysis of mammalian or vertebrate genomes. Experience with comparative and evolutionary genomic approaches Relevant laboratory skills for comparative genomics (HMW DNA extraction, library preparation, cell culture). Ph.D. with relevant experience in comparative genomics as demonstrated through publications in peer-reviewed journals. Experience with natural history collections Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency with programming in Python and R, or other relevant languages. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff Excellent communication and presentation skills Strong interpersonal and organizational skills Additional Information Machines or equipment used in the performance of essential duties Genetic Lab Equipment Computer Phone Physical Requirements Ability to move light, medium objects with assistance.
