Job Description SUMMARY: Under general supervision, the Street Technician I performs street maintenance and repair tasks, operates small to medium-sized equipment, and ensures safe work practices while maintaining street infrastructure. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions, but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Operate light to medium vehicles and equipment for hauling, loading, and street repair. Participate in the installation and repair of streets, potholes, curbs, sidewalks, and other structures. Utilize GPS/technology to log asset locations and work completed. Perform safety inspections on vehicles and tools. Maintain daily activity reports and work logs. Assist in identifying issues and proposing basic repair solutions. Perform other duties as assigned to support the Streets Division. Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned. Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: ·Familiarity with construction practices and city maintenance procedures. ·Ability to read and understand basic maps, instructions, and safety protocols. ·Basic understanding of safety practices. ·Willingness to learn use of equipment and tools. ·Providing efficient customer service. Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with all levels within the City. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma or equivalent; ability to operate heavy equipment and pass internal skills assessment and required training. A valid Texas Drivers License is required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed primarily in an outdoor work environment. May be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, potential physical harm, hazardous chemicals and infectious diseases. May be required to work in confined spaces. May be required to climb ladders. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds.
