Working Title: Public Safety Officer - Campus Security Officer Institution: Saint Paul College Classification Title: Campus Security Officer Bargaining Unit / Union: 203: AFSCME - Service City: St. Paul FLSA: Non Job Exempt Full Time / Part Time: Full time Employment Condition: Classified - Unlimited Salary Range: $23.61 - $33.45 Job Description Job Summary: This position exists to create and maintain a safe and secure environment, monitor safety and security concerns, and is the contact person for emergency personnel at Saint Paul College buildings and surrounding property. Duties include, but are not limited to, patrol interior/exterior and encircling properties of Saint Paul College; create and maintain a safe environment; monitor and patrol all campus-parking areas; respond to campus-wide emergency situations and provide lead work direction for a shift that consists of student Public Safety Dispatchers. Job Duties: Patrol interior/exterior and encircling properties of Saint Paul College (SPC). Regulate, monitor and patrol all campus parking areas: parking ramp, surface lots, loading dock ramp and area, driveways and fire access lanes. Respond to campus-wide emergency situation and trouble calls. Enforce established key responsibility procedures for all campus buildings Direct and assign all student security monitors (5-7). Perform other duties as requested by the Director of Public Safety or the Vice President of Finance and Operations. Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $23.61 - $32.54 hourly. Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience as a Security Patrol Officer, Crime Prevention Officer, or Peace Officer (An associates degree in Law Enforcement, Paralegal or related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience; a bachelors degree in above areas may substitute for two (2) years of experience). Must pass FBI/BCA background check free from convictions of felony and/or misdemeanor violations. Must possess a valid Minnesota Class D Drivers License or obtain one prior to appointment. Must pass pre-employment physical and drug test exam prior to employment. Preferred Qualification Good written communication with the ability to provide detailed, clear information; Good oral communication skills for interviewing witnesses, victims, suspects, and defusing conflicts and violent situations; Possess knowledge of standard police practices including investigation techniques and procedures, citizens arrest power and loss prevention techniques; Experience as a Campus Security Officer or similar position with a College or University Ability to work as a team member as well as individually; Knowledge of access control, video surveillance, report writing software, intrusion alarms, detection and fire alarms; Experience providing customer service, assisting the public and de-escalating difficult situations.
