SUMMARY: Under general direction of Manager, Accounting Operations, performs a variety of professional accounting duties, administers various automated sub-systems, monitors various general ledger accounts, prepares and reviews entries to ensure the accuracy of all account figures, prepares numerous accounting/finance related reports and summaries. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for day-to-day accounting for Brown University Health affiliated entities, including the timely preparation of monthly financial reports and analyses. Maintains compliance with closing schedules of Brown University Health and its affiliates.Maintains and coordinates accounting interface for significant sub-systems, including but not limited to revenue, payroll and accounts payable, which feed the general ledger system.Reviews and prepares journal entries for appropriate accounts; ensures that all account activity has been recorded, all corrections have been made, all adjustments have been calculated and all closing entries prepared. May coordinate resolution of all significant budget variances for the closing process.Reviews trial balances in order to identify input and accounting errors. Resolves all errors through analysis and preparation of correction entries.May review check requests and purchase requisitions to ensure adequate balance in non-research restricted funds prior to processing. May perform monthly review of deficit restricted funds and resolve with appropriate manager or director.Maintains chart of accounts within Brown University Health Corporate guidelines including the issuance and deletion of cost centers and accounts used to summarize financial performance. May maintain restricted fund report distribution lists.Gathers data and assists in the preparation and consolidation of complex financial and statistical statements and summaries that depict the financial activities and status of Brown University Healths affiliated entities.Performs analysis of various general ledger accounts by reviewing entries, compiling and comparing balances and interpreting trends and/or deviations from standards. May maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.Conducts special analysis and works on special projects as assigned; prepares ad-hoc financial and statistical reports; replies to information requests.Works with Financial Operations and Information Systems personnel to coordinate the update, reconciliation and reporting of assigned areas of responsibility.May prepare annual information reporting returns and annual tax returns of Brown University Healths entities.Assists with the preparation of schedules and analyses required for the annual financial statement audit. Interacts routinely with audit staff to respond to inquiries.Through Brown University Healths Service Quality Initiative, seeks and develops methods to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations, and initiates improvements to processes and reports to better serve users of financial information. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE:A level of knowledge generally obtained through a Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance. A designation of CPA or CMA is preferred, but not required. Must be computer literate, especially in the use of spreadsheet and word processing programs.EXPERIENCE:Three or more years of accounting experience, including preparation of multi-company financial statements, preparation of annual tax filings and extensive microcomputer applications and financial reporting preferably in a health care environment.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:Functional supervision for up to three (3) full-time equivalent personnel. Supervision is limited to assigning work, scheduling, providing guidance and counsel and input for performance evaluation.
