As a Public Safety Dispatcher, you will be responsible for responding to incoming emergency and non-emergency calls to obtain and disseminate accurate information in an efficient, expedient, and professional manner. Our Dispatch team directly assists the public by providing a variety of information and direction. You will serve as a communication link in emergency situations until the situation is resolved. The ideal candidate will maintain positive and professional written and verbal communication skills at all times and consistently provide excellent customer service to all citizens and emergency responders. A key part of your role will be to dispatch emergency and non-emergency response to police, security, and other non-emergency public safety equipment. You will coordinate police, fire, and EMS response with local jurisdictions. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL: Answer, evaluate, and prioritize incoming telephone calls, communicating effectively with various callers to obtain complete and accurate information to determine urgency and need for dispatching emergency response units using a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, telephones, multi-channel radio, and numerous computer databases and maps. Accurately and consistently dispatch the appropriate police and/or security resources while coordinating fire, ambulance, or other emergency response, track the status and location of each, and transmit messages and information to units. Maintain positive and professional written and verbal communication skills at all times will consistently providing excellent customer service to all citizens and emergency responders. Maintain confidentiality at all times for our citizens, emergency responders, and employees. Maintain confidentiality in a sensitive, information-rich environment and adhere to all federally mandated rules and regulations for multimodal public transportation (Federal Transit Administration and Federal Railroad Administration). Monitor and manipulate multiple CCTV systems district-wide and switch between various properties and cameras looking for illegal, suspicious, or dangerous activities. Utilize CCTV systems to aid in apprehending offenders and observe officer contacts to ensure safety. OTHER : All job-related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED Ability to accurately type a minimum of thirty-five (35) words per minute while entering data or information relayed over the phone, radio, or other audio input into a terminal, computer system, or other device. Willingness to submit to an extensive background investigation to include records verification, reference checks, psychological, polygraph and drug screening examinations. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in military or civilian law enforcement, security, fire, medical services, military, and/or public safety and/or transit dispatching is preferred. Customer service experience is preferred. This may include public facing, call center, complaint resolution, and data entry. Strong computer skills highly preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to retain and accurately recall information Strong multi-tasking and, organizational skills Ability to prioritize, and adapt to constantly changing situations, and effectively take appropriate action Perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy, at times during stressful situations. Ability to consistently remain calm and effective, even during heavy workloads Exercise good judgment, prioritize emergent and non-emergent situations accurately, and obtain and act on information quickly and accurately. Ability to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays to maintain 24-hour coverage 365 days a year. Ability to follow complex verbal and written instructions, policies, and procedures. Ability to communicate with others and to assimilate and understand information in a manner consistent with the essential job functions. Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the "Essential Responsibilities" of this position. Ability to speak and hear clearly with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation as well as the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials.
