The ideal candidate will have hands-on machining experience, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to quality and safety. This position supports production operations in a fast-paced, defense manufacturing environment and plays a key role in ensuring component accuracy and reliability for critical systems. In this role, you will set up and operate a variety of conventional and CNC machine tools, lathes, mills, grinders, and planers to produce metal parts, mechanisms, tools, and assemblies to exacting tolerances. What Youll get to Do: Set up and operate conventional and/or CNC machine tools to fabricate precision components per engineering drawings and specifications. Interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical specifications to determine machining sequence, setup requirements, and tolerances. Perform layout, marking, and measurement using precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges. Make standard computations relating to dimensions, tooling, feeds, and speeds. Fit and assemble parts into subassemblies and mechanical equipment; verify clearances and alignment. Monitor and verify product quality using inspection techniques and statistical process controls (SPC). Maintain detailed production records and ensure compliance with internal quality and safety standards. Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to identify process improvements and troubleshoot issues. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area following all company safety guidelines. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Stand for extended periods while operating machinery. Manual dexterity and visual acuity for precision measurements. Basic Qualifications Machinist (Level 1): High School Diploma or GED equivalent. At least 12 years of machining experience (conventional or CNC). Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, shop drawings, and GD&T specifications. Experience operating mills, lathes, or grinders. Familiarity with precision measurement instruments. Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance. U.S. Citizenship required Basic Qualifications Machinist (Level 2): High School Diploma or GED equivalent, plus 34 years of machining experience (including CNC setup and operation). Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, shop drawings, and GD&T specifications. Experience with tool setup, fixturing, and multi-axis operations. Demonstrated ability to hold tight tolerances and perform complex setups. Experience in monitoring quality and process capability (SPC, inspection documentation). Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance. U.S. Citizenship required Preferred Qualifications Machinist: 5+ years of aerospace or defense industry machining experience. Experience with CNC programming or CAM software (Mastercam, GibbsCAM, or similar). Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO quality systems. Experience working from model-based definition (MBD) or digital manufacturing instructions. Experience training or mentoring junior machinists. Continuous improvement / lean manufacturing mindset. Compensation and Pay Range Level 1: $45,760 $58,240 Level 2: $62,560 $79,040 MANUMS Primary Level Salary Range: $46,760.00 - $58,240.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
