In delivering service, Business Affairs maintains a focus on collaboration, continuous improvement, best-in-class technology, and the strategic and sustainable use of university resources while maintaining compliance with attention to corporate social responsibility both within the institution and among its suppliers. Facilities Management is an integral element of the Business Affairs team and serves to create, maintain, and continuously improve the William & Mary physical environment to enable excellence in teaching, research, and public service. Grounds Workers provide scheduled landscape maintenance services and work generated through the work order system to the University for the Old Campus, New Campus, Law School, and the Dillard Complex. Duties include but are not limited to: Performs general landscape maintenance on plants and shrubbery and general maintenance on roads and walkways. Responsible for campus litter removal. Performs pre-maintenance checks on equipment and operates equipment according to manuals. Job Description: Salary up to $35,000 per year. Required Qualifications: High School graduate or equivalent. Experience in a related field. Valid Drivers license and two years of driving experience. Knowledge of general landscape maintenance practices and procedures including proper pruning practices employed in maintaining shrubbery. Knowledge of appropriate chemical usage related to the landscape field. Knowledge of performing routine maintenance on landscape vehicles, equipment, and tools. Working knowledge using and maintaining power and hand tools. Working knowledge of maintaining the proper records associated with landscape maintenance. Ability to respond to emergency situations and task assignments on short notice. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Conditions of Employment: This is a non-exempt position, which may be eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. Job Duties: 80% - Maintain Campus Landscape: Performs general landscape maintenance on plants and shrubbery. Performs general maintenance on roads and walkways. Responsible for campus litter removal. Other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned. 20% - Equipment Operation/Emergency Operation/Chemical Use: Responsible for operating equipment according to owners manual and in a safe manner. Performs pre-maintenance checks on equipment. Responsible for restoring campus to good condition after a storm event. Responsible for reading and understanding label directions on any chemical before it is used. Additional Job Description: Applies knowledge of methods and general procedures of applicable trade or grounds maintenance techniques. Applies and develops basic skills in procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment appropriate to area. Some related experience in the area. Valid drivers license may be required.
