Job Description The School of Dentistry has an outstanding opportunity for a Dental Assistant 1 to join The Endodontics Department Clinic team. The Department of Endodontics at the School of Dentistry is one of the premier clinical training programs for endodontists in the country. Our faculty, staff, and students have a teamwork approach to clinical care to ensure the patient has the best possible treatment experience. The Dental Assistant under direct supervision, will Assist faculty and Dental Assistants 2 in various fundamental four-handed techniques; correct chair positioning, prepare patients, instruct patients in home care; operate equipment, sterilize instruments, and assist with related functions and activities of a dental setting. Other duties may include assisting with clerical activities, and activities for patient care in the clinic. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Before Appointment 25% Set up clinical units and maintain endodontic specialty equipment. During the Appointment 35% Greet and Seat patients, adjust chair and prepare patient for dentist. Assisting under direct supervision, will Assist faculty and Dental Assistants 2 in various fundamental four-handed techniques. Prepare and mix temporary treatment materials. Deliver and set up nitrous oxide and oxygen tanks weighing approx. 20-25 lbs. Instruct patients in home care. After the Appointment 30% Clean and maintain dental chairs and equipment. Maintain endodontic instruments and handpieces Other 10% Assist with inventory of clinical supplies Perform related duties as needed MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Completion of a training program for dental assistants; current certification as a dental assistant (CDA) or the ability to obtain same within six months; or six months of dental assistant experience. Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration. LEGAL REQUIREMENT Registration with the State of Washington as a Dental Assistant.
