Multi-Platform News Producer Summary: This role is responsible for creating news content across several news platforms including television, digital and social media. The ideal candidate will start with story ideas and tips, verify information and then write stories and create videos and graphics. This role originates content for television, streaming newscasts, our website and apps, social media, YouTube and other platforms. This is the perfect role for someone who loves pursuing a good story and presenting that news in a way that connects with users and viewers. This role may include working early mornings, nights and/or weekends. Essential Functions: Maintain working knowledge of current events, community issues and local news sources and resources. Monitor all forms of media, news tips and internal resources in order to be quick to report breaking news stories. Always be on the hunt for exclusive or trending content that will grow engagement and viewership. Curate and aggregate a steady stream of interesting content that is packaged and promoted in a way that generates engagement with users/viewers on television and digital and social media. Understand the needs of different platforms. Find opportunities to efficiently create content that works in multiple places and know when something unique is needed. Use great video, photographs, graphics and strong writing tailored to each medium. Knowledge of best practices to grow audience on digital: attention-grabbing headlines, alerts, images and social content; on television: teases, succinct and lively writing, use of video and graphics to showcase a report. Produce breaking news content including push alerts, on-air tickers, digital articles, television scripts and social graphics. Use analytics to review and learn from previous work and to guide future decisions. Edit and clip video content to be used across all platforms. Build positive working relationships with newsroom staff and management. Promote and distribute news content across all platforms. Demonstrate solid news judgement. Strong initiative and attention to detail. Flexibility to perform additional duties. Skill/Experience Requirements Two years experience in journalism including television news and/or digital news content. Ability to be fast and first at breaking news; experience with severe weather coverage a plus. Strong news writing skills. Ability to write for both digital and broadcast. Strong multi-tasking abilities. Organized, technical problem-solver, ability to make reasoned and fast decisions Ability to quickly learn new things and adapt to change. Capable of researching, interviewing and writing original news stories for digital and television. Working knowledge of AP Style. Enjoys working on a shift team. Communicates clearly and quickly with team members. Schedule flexibility. Responds well to feedback. Understands measurement will be based in part on several key performance indicators. Proficiency in MS Office, WordPress, Adobe Premiere and Photoshop, AP ENPS are plusses. Education Requirements Bachelors degree Salary Range: $25-$28.50/hr. based on experience.
