The North Carolina Department of Revenue is currently seeking a Revenue Law Enforcement Agent - Motor Fuels Tax Investigator for our Fayetteville or Charlotte Service Center territories. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with motor fuels tax law within an assigned territory. Investigators conduct inspections through the fuel distribution system including retail service stations, fuel terminals, and the trucking industry. Other job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, detecting fuel tax evasion, conducting investigations, and conducting undercover surveillance of persons and places engaged in motor fuels tax evasion schemes. The Motor Fuels Tax Investigator is responsible for an assigned territory. Applicant must reside within assigned region. Some overnight travel is required. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Demonstrates understanding legal enforcement method and adaptability to changing policies, procedures, and priorities Possesses proficiency in public interaction including the ability to clearly convey concepts and ideas in written, verbal and other non-verbal communication forms, public speaking and conducting in-depth interviews Certification by North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission as a Law Enforcement Officer in good standing Law enforcement or investigative experience Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel Recruitment Range: $48,920 - $78,271 Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification.
