We are seeking an Environmental Public Health Administrator to serve as subject matter expert on solid waste diversion, hazardous and special waste, and administer programs associated with these programs at DEN. This position requires significant regulatory and scientific expertise to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements while promoting high environmental performance. This role would formally own DENs solid waste diversion, special waste, and Large Quantity Generator (LQG) hazardous and universal waste programs supporting progress toward our 2030 goal of 40% diversion and strengthening regulatory compliance. Key responsibilities will include: Solid Waste Diversion: Lead DENs solid waste diversion programs Maintain high level of performance within existing organics collection, single stream recycling, and source separated materials streams Act as a creative thinker to further develop and expand the waste diversion programs at DEN. You will need to work creatively and persistently to streamline processes, pilot new programs, apply for grant opportunities, and report on waste diversion metrics in support of DENs goals Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) for DENs robust Construction and Demolition/Deconstruction program that includes extensive concrete and asphalt recycling. Supports special initiatives conducted on a project by project basis under the LEED framework Lead execution and scaling of the Zero Waste Valet contract and program Drive behavior change across internal stakeholders and external partners Lead program implementation with numerous and diverse internal and external stakeholders, including airlines, restaurants/concessionaires, city employees, and the traveling public. Facilitates specialized environmental or public health initiatives, projects, or programs and makes policy recommendations to internal and external stakeholders by establishing and achieving objectives. Lead solid waste compliance reporting Hazardous and Universal Waste: Maintain strong compliance record and efficient processes for management of hazardous and universal waste streams Improve systems, recordkeeping, and training to strengthen compliance Coordinate with CDPHE on regulatory changes, compliance issues, and program improvements Special Waste: Own and improve special waste processes and support Maintenance, Operations, and DEC in proper management Provide technical guidance and support to DEN departments and business partners to ensure alignment with operational objectives and compliance with all applicable regulatory standards. Provides supportive, interpretive, and advisory information to higher-level management and/or other stakeholders. Makes recommendations on projects or programs to internal and external stakeholders. Meets with stakeholders to solicit input regarding a program or projects direction, evaluate its effectiveness, and to develop new programs. Oversee compliance activities such as inspections, reporting, and corrective actions to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements. Gather and analyze environmental data to assess compliance and support enforcement actions. Manage contracts and task orders, including budget development, expense management, RFP creation, and contractor performance oversight. Investigates sources of program funding, writes proposals, administers expenditure budget and grant funds, assists in the development and implementation of the budget, approves expenditures, and ensures grant funds are used correctly. Leads the grant reporting, grant compliance and auditing, grant application and renewals. Contribute expertise to DENs environmental sustainability programs including an Environmental Management System (EMS) that is certified to ISO Standard 14001:2015, and covers on-call spill and release response shifts as part of the environmental sustainability team on-call rotation. The ability to generate alternative solutions, consider risk, and evaluate and choose the best alternative to perform work The ability to read and interpret written material, including technical materials such as product manuals, engineering drawings, operating manuals, and regulatory materials such as rules and regulations and environmental permits Interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders at DEN Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of an organization from field personnel to management Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to and learn from diverse audiences Results-oriented, self-driven to contribute to a high performing team Experience adapting to setbacks and changes in work assignments and ways of doing work The ability to not only work by yourself and get the job done with minimal direction and supervision, including solo shifts, but also the ability to closely work with other team members Required Minimum Qualifications Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Environmental Science, or a related field based on a specific position. Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of professional experience conducting scientific research and/or analysis on a variety of environmental or public health issues as required by the specific duties assigned to the position. Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements. License/Certifications: By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
