Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations. Responsibilities: GENERAL PURPOSE Conducts experiments, tests, and research within a laser laboratory setting. Assists more experienced engineers or scientists in designing and setting up experiments, maintaining equipment, and collecting data. Diagnoses and performs preventative maintenance on system components including recovery, replacement, and reconfiguration of damaged sensitive components. Manages fragile targets for laser exploration and handles decontamination of radiological components and activated materials. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Configures, installs, tests, and operates advanced diagnostics and cameras, following standard operating procedures to ensure safe and effective operations. Works with diagnostics, including optical, mechanical, electrical, and magnetic elements, to provide quality data during experiments. Manages very fragile targets for laser experiments. Performs servicing between laser shots, including replacing damaged components, recovering and reloading detector media, and reconfiguring diagnostics as requested by the Principal Investigator. Monitors and maintains project operations at the Omega laser facility. Oversees engineering design, documentation, personnel coordination, budgeting, purchasing, scheduling, and safety assessments. Assists in the development, installation, and testing of new components and systems as needed. Handles decontamination of radiological components and survey activated materials. Performs preventative maintenance tasks to ensure system components are in optimal condition. Conducts basic mechanical rigging using cranes or hoists. Operates and maintains various pumps, including cryogenic, roughing, and turbo pumps. Conducts testing and installations related to the vacuum system. Other duties as assigned.
