Job Summary The Central Sterile Technician, is an experienced Sterile Processing/Central Sterile Technician with a minimum of one (1) year of experience. The Central Sterile Technician will be accountable for maintaining the standards of quality established for the department. The Central Sterile Technician will perform his/her duties within the Instrument Room areas that would include the decontamination, preparation and sterile processing of surgical instruments and supplies for patient use in accordance with Hospital and Departmental policies and procedures. Essential Functions Contributes to the actualization of the Philosophy and Critical Success Factors for the Surgical Services Department * Maintains compliance with the policies and procedures set fourth in the following: Administrative Procedure Manual Personnel Manual Fire and Disaster Manual Infection Control Manual OR Manual * Works with the Instrument Room Manager and Assistant Manager to implement changes in new policies and procedures. * Is able to understand and articulate changes and revisions in hospital/departmental policies. * Adheres to policies with legal/regulatory requirements, including but not necessarily limited to: Risk Management Patient Bill of Rights Environment of Care Rounds Performs work in a safe and effective manner in order to assure optimum functioning of the Department Participates in Staff Development and Educational Activities. * Performs daily assignments as assigned by the Instrument Room Manager. * Prepares critical instruments sets and specialty equipment for sterilization. * Assist in maintaining appropriate. par levels of supplies * Communicates issues to the Instrument Room Manager/ANM's to enhance/facilitate operations. * Decontaminates, cleans, prepares, assembles, wraps, sterilizes, stores and distributes instruments completed by the department. * Monitors the Instrument Tracking System, Biological Monitoring and Internal indicators. * Inspects and checks work in progress to ensures that standards are adhered to and takes corrective action as necessary. * Works closely with other departments and related personnel in coordinating activities and resolving problems encountered concerning supply shortages, needs and instruments problems. * Maintains inventory list and picture files of all loaner instrumentation, accessories and implants. Participate in Staff Development and Educational Activities * Attends all mandatory in-service updates on a yearly basis (e.g. Fire Safety, Infection Control) * Assists with new employee orientation in conjunction with the Instrument Room Manager and Inservice Nurse Educator. Qualifications GED Required 1-3 years Sterile Processing, Instrument Room or Central Sterile Processing Experience. Must Read, Write and Speak English fluently.
