Available Title(s): 524B-YN_CS_NPS - Veterinary Specialist 2, 524C-YN_CS_NPS - Veterinary Specialist 3 Business Title: Veterinary Technician - VCS Employee Type: Classified Position Details: The Opportunity: Provide veterinary technical support and assist during examination, diagnostic procedures, induction, anesthesia, surgery and recovery of live animals in the CVM professional degree program laboratory teaching unit. Will also assist with setup, teaching and tear-down of laboratories in professional degree program. Will teach DVM students and communicate with faculty and other staff regarding the delivery of laboratory curriculum and procurement of animals for the teaching program. Additional Information: This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible. Monthly Salary: Veterinary Specialist 2: $4,542 to $6,107 | Range 50 (Steps A-M) Veterinary Specialist 3: $4,882 to $6,576 | Range 53 (Steps A-M) Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidates current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Required Qualifications: Veterinary Specialist 2: An associate degree from an accredited school of animal technology, or registration, certification or licensure in an animal or veterinary technician field and one year full-time experience as a Veterinary Specialist 1; OR equivalent education/experience. Must meet the required criteria (WAC 246-935-060) to be eligible to sit for the Washington State veterinary technician exam and must pass the exam the first time it is available. Veterinary Specialist 3: A Bachelors degree in a medical, biological, or allied field, and two years of applicable experience; or graduation from a two-year veterinary technician program, and two years of working experience with laboratory animals, at least six months must include experience directing the work of others; OR equivalent education/experience. Licensed veterinary technician at time of hire. If not licensed in Washington State, must meet the required criteria (WAC 246-935-060) to be eligible to sit for the Washington State veterinary technician exam and must pass the exam the first time it is available. Preferred Qualifications: For all classifications: Experience training and teaching students, interns and residents in specialty clinic setting. Experience working in a small animal and large animal veterinary setting preferred. Preferred for Veterinary Specialist 3: 5 years of experience working with laboratory animals or in a veterinary clinic setting.
