The Technology Services Department (TS) of the City and County of Denver use state-of-the-art technologies and methodologies to deliver and improve the systems, applications, and operations to our customers. What We Offer The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The hiring range for this position is $95,000.00 - $123,000.00/year, based on experience and education. Colfax Ave. and includes regular visits to other City buildings across the Denver Metro area. What Youll Do Were looking for a highly motivated, handson Senior Network Engineer who loves the craft of networking and takes pride in building reliable systems for a major metropolitan government environment. This role sits on TSs build/architecture team, responsible for designing, implementing, refreshing, and handing off network infrastructure across City agencies. If youre an engineer with strong Cisco/Meraki experience who enjoys meaningful responsibility, minimal travel, and a supportive, collaborative team this role will feel like home. As a Network Engineer on our architecture/build team, you will support design, installation, refresh, documentation, and operational readiness across Denvers enterprise network footprint. Responsibilities Core Build & Infrastructure Tasks Perform daytoday maintenance, installation, upgrades, and monitoring of Cisco & Meraki network systems. Plan, coordinate, and perform IOS upgrades, switch/router replacements, and major refresh projects following change management procedures. Build and deploy new sites, equipment stacks, and network infrastructure as part of TS capital and operational initiatives. Advanced Network Support Diagnose and resolve complex/critical network and wireless issues with a calm, solutionsfocused approach. Monitor and tune network/voice hardware, respond to outages, and provide regular updates to leadership. Manage SNMP alerts, packet captures, and analysis for proactive issue mitigation. Collaboration & Architecture Partner with senior network architects, management, and agency stakeholders on short and longterm network strategies. Work closely with peer engineers on planning, installation, and refresh cycles for Cisco routing and switching environments. Documentation & Handoff Perform and document backups, recovery procedures, and ensure all documentation is current and accurate. Provide clear, complete handoff packages to the Network Operations (breakfix) team. Create and maintain knowledge base articles, network diagrams, and capacity planning documentation. Operational Tasks Monitor ServiceNow queue and troubleshoot complex breakfix issues as needed. Plan and coordinate staff moves requiring network adjustments. Identify and recommend process improvements, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement. What Youll Bring Were looking for candidates with strong hands-on networking experience, proactive ownership, and a collaborative mindset. Preferred Skills & Tools CCNP or CCNA strongly preferred. Expertise with: Routing protocols: OSPF/EIGRP/BGP SolarWinds Orion & NCM NetBrain Cisco telephony & WebEx Cloud Calling Packet capture/analysis tools Palo Alto firewalls Cisco Security (FTD/FMC) CUCM, Cisco voice systems Vulnerability management, PCI/CJIS/HIPAA considerations Copper/fiber troubleshooting and network design Strong documentation and changerecord creation skills. Hybrid work capability and highly collaborative team mentality. Minimum Qualifications Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Mathematics or a related field. Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of professional Information Technology experience installing, maintaining, and/or modifying network operating systems to include both software and hardware. Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements. License/Certifications: Must obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) clearance within the probationary period.
