Who we are The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) includes the Small Animal Hospital and the Large Animal Hospital, both of which are dedicated to the total well-being and care of a pet throughout its lifetime. What we want We are looking for a Technician I to assist in planning research on support laboratory methods and techniques, carrying out procedures, and recording results for a series of closely controlled experiments. What you need to know Salary: Starting at $16/hour. Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, with occasional weekends and on-call required. Please note: Persons in this position are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc., and are therefore required to report to work and remain on duty unless/until relieved by the direct supervisor. Qualifications Required Education and Experience: Bachelors degree in a related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications: One year in scientific research, clinical, operational, or experimental work. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Responsibilities Performs general functions of the laboratory: Sets up sample submissions to appropriate protocol for request, records sample submissions, and assigns a lab number. Performs bacterial identification and susceptibility testing, PCR, and DNA extraction. Performs immunologic assays on submitted patient samples. Communicates test results to clinician or student. Provides back-up support for other technicians in Clinical Microbiology laboratory. Monitors and Records Data: Enters hospital fees into the hospital computer information system. Maintains accurate medical records. Enters test results into the hospital computer information system. Facilitates faculty instruction of Prof. Curriculum: Assists Microbiologist with teaching duties. Maintains Laboratory within VMTH: Orders supplies for the lab. Performs general laboratory maintenance. Laboratory Equipment: Helps maintain and operate laboratory equipment. Why Texas A&M University?
