Compensation: $27.16/hour ($25.16+$2.00 shift differential/hour) Shifts Available: nd Shift (Mon-Fri 2:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.) & 3rd Shift (Sun-Thurs 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.) A Brief Summary of This Position This is an individual contributor position responsible for performing all the tasks in this summary in addition to training, mentoring and preparing Material Handlers for optimum safety, performance and success in executing their job functions. This includes preparing products and materials for the galvanizing process by hanging angles on spreader bars, staging tubular products, and preparing small parts for galvanizing. Material Handler 2 will also be responsible for inspecting and identifying production fixtures, chains, and hooks to ensure proper repair or discarding of unsafe items. Incumbent will also hand wire small to medium sized parts to racks for pickling or galvanizing, pull and place chains and ropes around steel bundles for racking, and move pieces of steel by hand from different locations in the plant and yard. Material Handler 2 also performs paddling functions to enhance the quality level of the various galvanized products using air guns to blow off zinc needles. Additional duties include using air or electric powered tools to help prepare steel for pickling or galvanizing, assisting in general plant clean up and housekeeping, and working safely with the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which includes the ability to complete a respirator fit test per OSHA standards which requires candidate/incumbent to trim or remove facial hair that interferes with the seal of the respirator. Essential Functions: Material Handler 2 must be highly skilled in performing all the essential functions of a Material Handler. Demonstrate the desire and aptitude to train Material Handlers in all essential functions of their job. Material Handler 2 must be highly skilled in inspecting product quality before being released as complete. Promote the safety culture by demonstrating and training Material Handlers in Valmont Coatings safety rules. Crosstrain to become Crew Leader backups. Conduct themselves in a professional manner as an extension of the floor leadership team. Maintains good housekeeping and safety practices Assist within other areas of Valmont as needed Independent travel up to 5% annually to support field service requests Required Qualifications for Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) One year experience in Coatings Successful completion of American Galvanizers Association Inspection Course.
