Research Technician

Department BSD OBA - Prince Lab About the Department The Research Technologist will be responsible for the maintenance of a small zebrafish aquarium facility, and the zebrafish stocks, maintenance of zebrafish stocks in the central core facility, general technical support including ordering and tracking supplies, and embryology, histology, and confocal imaging approaches. Job Summary The job provides technical support activities related to scientific research projects. Ensures compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates. Assists in drafting presentations on research findings. Responsibilities Regular water-quality checks and facility maintenance. Caring for and raising zebrafish for daily embryo production and stock maintenance. Setting up regular pairwise matings between fish, and embryo collection. Genotyping of fish stocks. Ordering consumables; maintaining stocks of standard solutions. Maintaining lab databases. Experimental embryology and imaging. Provides technical and administrative support for a research project. Collects and enters data. Assists in analyzing data. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents. Performs other related work as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education: Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree). Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline. Certifications: --- Preferred Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in the biological sciences. Experience: Previous experience with zebrafish husbandry. Previous research experience, specifically in the areas of embryology and/or imaging. Preferred Competencies Interactive communication. Ability to work as a team player.
