Full Job Description

Position: Data Science Intern, Hematology/Oncology Research Location: Boston, MA Schedule: 40 hours per week, On-site End Date: July 2027 POSITION SUMMARY: The Dries Lab is seeking a skilled computational scientist with a strong software engineering background to join our lab and lead the development of a spatial ATAC-seq analysis pipeline for pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (pNET) data. The successful candidate will be responsible for building robust, scalable workflows for processing, analysis, and visualization of spatial chromatin accessibility data, from raw data handling through to biological interpretation. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES A key aspect of the role involves integrating spatial ATAC-seq data with complementary modalities within complex bioinformatics ecosystems, including Giotto Suite. The candidate will contribute to and extend existing tooling, requiring a high standard of software engineering practice including clean, well-documented, and maintainable code and the ability to navigate and build upon large, multi-package frameworks. JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION: Recent college graduate or student enrolled in a related graduate or undergraduate degree program, preferably beyond a second semester junior. EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidate holds a degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field, and has hands-on experience with ATAC-seq or other chromatin accessibility assays. Proficiency in R and/or Python is essential, along with a solid understanding of epigenomics, gene regulation, and cancer biology. Experience with spatial omics platforms or software development in an open-source research context is highly desirable.
