Job TitleTechnician I Agency Texas A&M Agrilife Research Department Horticultural Sciences Proposed Minimum Salary$16.00 hourly Job LocationCollege Station, Texas Job TypeStaff Job Description Job Responsibilities Prepare fields, maintain irrigation and drainage systems, plant bare root and potted plants, maintain fertility treatments to ensure optimal growth, prune plants, and maintain equipment used in the program. Execute pest, disease, and weed control and fertility program in the greenhouse, nursery, beds, and field plots. (requires a Pesticide applicator's License) Propagate and grow experimental roses as needed Measure/rate plants for various aspects of plant growth, quality, yield, or resistance to disease Collect samples of fruit, leaves, stems, and flowers for characterization Collect data on various aspects of plant growth or resistance to disease Help with breeding programs by making hybridization, collecting pollen and seed, cleaning/stratifying seed, germination, and growth of seedlings. Summarize data collected. Maintain warehouse, headhouse, and field box for organization and cleanliness Other duties as required. Required Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience Two years of related experience Preferred Education: Bachelors degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Experience: Experience in rose greenhouse and field horticultural operations. Preferred licenses or certifications: Valid Pesticide Applicators License or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to operate and maintain horticultural equipment. Strong organizational and supervisory skills. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Basic data collection and summarization skills. Ability to ensure attention to detail. Able to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of pest and disease management in horticultural settings. All positions are security-sensitive.
