POSITION SPECIFICS The Penn State College of Medicine, Proteomics Mass Spectrometry Biomedical Core Facility is seeking a highly qualified Manager with expertise in Proteomics to lead and advance the Mass Spec & Proteomics Core. The successful candidate will be instrumental in delivering high-throughput proteomic services to support a wide range of research initiatives across the institution. This role encompasses executing complex proteomic workflows, ensuring optimal performance of advanced instrumentation, and managing efficient day-to-day laboratory operations. Strong knowledge of proteomics workflows, sample preparation, and qualitative and quantitative analysis is required and excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills are required This is an on-site, in-person position in Hershey, PA. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to Perform mass spectrometric analyses for identification and quantitation of proteins, peptides, oligonucleotides, carbohydrates, and lipids, including sample preparation, extraction, and quality control following established protocols. Conduct advanced proteomics data analysis, including peptide/protein identification, quantitative workflows (label-based and label-free), PTM analysis, and bioinformatics interpretation using tools such as Byonic, DIANA, MSFragger, and Scaffold. Operate and maintain mass spectrometry instruments (TimsTOF Flex, QuickPlex SQ120, etc.) to ensure optimal performance and uptime. Ensure data accuracy and integrity through rigorous quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures. Maintain detailed and organized records of all experimental procedures, results, and quality metrics. Provide exceptional customer service by communicating effectively with researchers, addressing inquiries, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality analytical results. Collaborate with investigators and colleagues to support diverse research projects and foster a team-oriented environment. Troubleshoot assays and instrumentation to maintain efficient and reliable laboratory operations. Stay current with advancements in mass spectrometry technologies and recommend improvements to workflows and instrumentation. Train students and researchers on instrument operation, best practices, and data interpretation as needed. Preferred Qualifications Masters in Biochemistry, Molecular biology, Chemistry, Analytical Science, or related field or equivalent experience required. PhD preferred. Minimum 35 years of hands-on experience with mass spectrometry techniques and data interpretation required. Experience scripting in R or Python would be preferable.
