Job Description QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to convey knowledge of tutorial discipline to others in a practical and comprehensive manner; Ability, if needed, to convey knowledge of tutorial discipline to others in a virtual environment; Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences; Ability to work independently as well as with others; Willingness to make students active partners in the learning process; Ability to pay close attention to detail as well as the possession of good judgment and a strong work ethic; Computer proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office and the Internet; Ability to communicate effectively with others both verbally and through written skills; Ability to represent the Academic Support Center in a positive manner. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Providing academic support and encouraging students to become independent learners; Cultivating and maintaining an ASC environment that is conducive to student learning. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Working with ASC and IRSC faculty and staff to provide tutorial assistance and academic support to IRSC students; Linking with faculty who teach core subjects to provide a bridge of support between the faculty member and the ASC; Communicating with faculty who teach core subjects regarding the performance of their students who are assigned to the ASC for academic support; Facilitating student study groups in the ASC or in other designated areas, i.e., classrooms, computer labs; Visiting classes to promote the services available in the ASC that support student success; Utilizing resources to promote/enhance student learning, i.e.texts, software, IRSC/ASC websites, printed materials, virtual classrooms; Maintaining an awareness of current College and department policies and guidelines; Completing other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present oral lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
