About the Role This is an mid-level veterinary technician position that requires the employee to be sufficiently knowledgeable and self-reliant to perform a number of veterinary and research activities. Veterinary Technicians perform various duties to facilitate and support the work and research done at our facility by completing a variety of animal health activities in the areas of medicine, surgery, and drug therapy. As a team, the Veterinary Services staff, is responsible for the treatment of all on-site ill and injured animals, and the fulfillment of the preventative medicine program as determined by the Attending Veterinarian. What Youll Do Here Follow all Altasciences Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and is compliant with GLP, ALCOA+, USDA, and AAALAC. Perform animal health duties, including examination/treatment of animals under the guidance of APC veterinarians and maintain animal health records. Performs routine quality control on all paperwork and performs computer entry and/or data retrieval as appropriate. Performs routine diagnostic/screening tests and veterinary procedures (such as body weights, body condition score (BCS), fecal examination, blood collection, dose administration, sample processing, and tissue collection). Provides surgical support by preparing patients, medications, and equipment for surgery, and monitoring animals while under anesthesia. Assists in surgical procedures and/ or advanced diagnostic/treatment procedures. Perform general housekeeping duties such as surgical sanitation, study set-up, study clean-up, equipment maintenance and validation, and organization of vet spaces. Performs dose calculations for medications to be given based on initial orders from a veterinarian or as per SOP or Protocol and may be responsible for ordering substances from the pharmacy for planned procedures. Proficient in working with all species on-site, ensuring the correct handling, restraint, and manipulation of sedated and non-sedated animals for essential procedures. Contributes to data collection and the execution of research projects, emphasizing the promotion of high data quality. May be responsible for management and maintenance of veterinary drugs, supplies, and equipment. May assist or perform advanced/specialized procedures (such as radiography/ fluoroscopy, euthanasia and conformation of death, dental prophylaxis and basic extractions, advanced dosing procedures, and sample collection). Assists Research Associates, Post-Life, and/or Labs and participates in weekend and evening rotations, as needed. What Youll Need to Succeed Associates or Bachelors degree with at least 1 year experience in clinical or research setting; Applicable state licensing for Veterinary technician(CVT/LVT/RVT); or high school diploma/GED with two years of relevant experience. Equivalent combination of experience my substitute for education. 2-4 years animal handling and medical/veterinary experience. Research experience is preferred Supervisory Experience: It is desirable to have achieved the ALAT certification and pursing LAT certification or equivalent. State Veterinary Technician License is preferred. Basic to advanced computer skills Demonstrates proficiency in general reading, writing, and verbal communication skills. Capable of swiftly comprehending and executing complex instructions, whether delivered verbally or in writing. Exhibits effective communication, both verbally and in writing, with diverse individuals in a professional, respectful, and clear manner, adhering to GLP standards where applicable. Requires the ability to accurately calculate doses. Possesses foundational skills in anesthetic monitoring and surgical preparation. Demonstrates mid-level proficiency in animal handling and procedural skills. Exhibits a basic understanding of general medical principles and practices. What We Offer: The pay range estimated for this position is $23.00 to $30.00 per hour. Please note that hourly rates/salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, prior relevant experience, skills, education, certification, location as well as internal equity and market data.
