Position Description The Anoka County Attorneys Office has an immediate opening for Legal Assistant in our Criminal Division. This division is responsible for prosecuting adults and certified juveniles charged with felony crimes and designated misdemeanors and gross misdemeanor crimes occurring within the boundaries of Anoka County. Legal Assistants are essential to the proper functioning of the Attorneys Office by providing administrative and technical legal support on assigned caseloads. Legal Assistants also perform document review and revision as well as generate and file documents with the court or other agencies. This is a full-time, non-exempt, position. Interviews will take place April 2nd and 3rd for those selected to move forward in the hiring process. Pay & Benefits Salary: $50,897.60 to $59,800.00 ($24.47 to $28.75 per hour). Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 28: $50,897.60 to $68,702.40 ($24.47 to $33.03 per hour). 24 days of paid flexible time off and up to 12.5 paid holidays. Pension plan and other retirement investment options. Advancement/professional development opportunities. Work Location This position is located at the Anoka County Government Center in Anoka. Most work is conducted on site at the Anoka County Government Center and attached Courthouse. Expected work hours are Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Schedule may vary based on business needs and supervisory approval. Occasional extra hours and evening hours maybe required. Job Duties and Responsibilities These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Legal Assistant I. Perform secretarial and administrative support to attorneys and paralegals. Prepare legal documents to include, but not limited to s, briefs, motions, notices, subpoenas, complaints and general correspondence. Efficiently utilize case management and electronic case filing systems and other legal reference software. Assist attorneys with documents and file management related to hearings and trial preparation. Summarize depositions, trial transcripts and exhibits. Proofread legal documents. Qualifications and Requirements: Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Requires a high school diploma and at least 2 years of job-related experience In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Degree in Business, Paralegal Studies or related field Possess a Paralegal certificate from an ABA accredited program Experience drafting, cite-checking, and correcting legal briefs Experience managing medium to large-scale document productions Knowledge and competency with case management software Strong verbal and written communication skills Physical Demands and Work Conditions Standard office environment, courtrooms, travel to various county work sites and meetings as needed Work activities may require contact with uncooperative, angry, and sometimes hostile clients depending on assignment Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades and brightness Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work Occasional lifting of 10-20 lbs.
