PURPOSE We are seeking a highly motivated researcher with a strong background and interest in machine learning and artificial intelligence. The position focuses on the development and application of advanced deep learning models, with an emphasis on techniques such as knowledge distillation. The candidate will engage in research involving time-series analysis, including modeling, forecasting, and anomaly detection, contributing to innovative solutions in these areas. DESCRIPTION Functional Area 1: Research Percent Effort: 80% Design, develop, and implement novel AI/ML models, with particular emphasis on time-series. Publish research findings at peer-reviewed journals and conferences. Functional Area 2: Grant Writing Percent Effort: 15% Prepare manuscripts, related grant proposals, and conference presentations. Functional Area 3: Teaching Percent Effort: 5% Teach courses in Department of Mathematics and Statistics Perform other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a closely related field. Demonstrated expertise working with multivariate time-series and spatiotemporal datasets. Advanced proficiency in Python. 12 years of hands-on experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow. Documented scholarly achievements in applied statistics, machine learning, or deep learning (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations). Proven ability to work effectively with various faculty, as well as undergraduate and graduate students. Capability to function both independently and within a multidisciplinary research team. Strong organizational and time-management skills, proactivity, accountability, and a solid work ethic. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and cooperate with colleagues. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Strong understanding of the mathematics of neural networks. Prior significant contributions to advanced machine-learning or deep-learning models. Evidence of having led a key research project, indicated by a first-author or corresponding-author paper in a leading peer-reviewed journal or conference. SALARY: $50,000- $60,000 Annual, Approximately $4,166.67- $5,000 monthly Note: Funding is temporary, this position is funded for 14-months. Employment may be impacted by the Presidential proclamation issued on September 19, 2025 and the moratorium issued by Texas Governor Abbott on January 27, 2026.
