Full Job Description

Join an innovative Agile team within Enterprise Financial Crimes & Identity that develops technology solutions supporting Fraud, Compliance, and Internal Threat programs across the Bank. This team partners closely with business stakeholders to create and enhance applications that help identify suspicious activity, streamline investigations, and provide actionable insights through modern data-driven solutions. Engineers on this team have the opportunity to work across full-stack technologies, contribute to mission-critical applications, and play a direct role in protecting the bank and its customers. Responsible at the proficient level for writing code and the team's technical requirements gathering. Completes work following banking technology standards and contributes to the overall stability and resiliency of banking technology within the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). Primary Responsibilities Work within the boundaries of the approved Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to solve business needs and minimize risks to the Bank through clean and resilient code with guidance as needed. Develop, enhance, and support applications that provide data and analytical capabilities for Fraud, Compliance, and Internal Threat monitoring functions. Collaborate closely with product owners, business partners, and fellow engineers in a highly interactive Agile environment to deliver innovative solutions. Participate in all phases of application development, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and production support. Provide feedback in pull requests to other team members. Participate in code review by presenting and providing constructive feedback on code quality and improvements with team members. Write organized, clean, efficient, and secure source code at proficient level in one or more programming languages to be verified by a senior team member. Utilize source control management tools to organize and maintain code with review from manager for structure and conflict resolution. Jointly analyze technical and business requirements for completeness, accuracy, and feasibility with senior team members to ensure accurate scoping of work. Collaborate, document, and communicate technical implementation details clearly and concisely within team on dependent requirements as needed. Contribute to both front-end and back-end development efforts while expanding technical expertise across the application stack. Support application releases and adhere to established SDLC and change management practices. Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management. Promote an environment that supports a culture of belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand. Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable. Scope of Responsibilities Work is performed independently with guidance on larger or more complex assignments. Position requires close collaboration with engineers, business stakeholders, product owners, and technology partners to deliver scalable and resilient solutions aligned to business objectives. Education and Experience Required Associate's degree and a minimum of 3 years systems analysis and/ or application development work experience OR Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 1 year systems analysis and/or application development work experience. In lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 5 years education and/or relevant work experience, including a minimum of 1 year of systems analysis and/or application development work experience Professional proficiency in at least one modern programming language. Experience developing, testing, and supporting software applications. Ability to collaborate effectively within an Agile software development environment. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience working with source control and code review processes. Education and Experience Preferred Full-stack development experience utilizing technologies such as Angular, Java, Spring Boot, Python, and SQL. Experience supporting modern web applications and API-driven architectures. Application administration and production support experience. Release management experience utilizing SDLC best practices. Knowledge of Risk, Compliance, Fraud, Financial Crimes, or related business domains. Analytics, data engineering, quantitative modeling, or scripting experience. Experience working with Agile methodologies and cross-functional product teams. Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within a collaborative team. Ability to multitask across moderately complex initiatives. Strong organizational and time management skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
