Why This Role Matters ERM is seeking a motivated Environmental Specialist in Washington DC, Boston, MA or Annapolis, MD to join our Sustainable Finance team. In this role, you will support clients in evaluating and managing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks and opportunities across complex domestic and international projects, with a particular focus on Latin America. What You'll Bring Required Qualifications Bachelors degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Environmental Finance, Sustainable Finance, Engineering, or a related discipline. 2-3 years (35+ years preferred) of consulting or related professional experience supporting sustainable finance, ESG, environmental management, international development, or similar fields. Understanding of international development frameworks and environmental policy processes. Familiarity with sustainability standards and frameworks such as: Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) IFC Performance Standards World Bank Environmental and Social Framework UN Guiding Principles Knowledge of emerging environmental and social issues, including climate change, natural resource management, biodiversity, and sustainability. Understanding of regulatory environments and environmental governance frameworks in the United States and/or Latin America. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing. Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and collaborate effectively within project teams. Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work products. Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area. Experience supporting projects in developing countries or working within multi-stakeholder environments. Biodiversity, ecology, or nature-based solutions expertise. Experience with environmental and social due diligence for development finance institutions. Professional proficiency in Spanish. Experience leading tasks, mentoring team members, or contributing to team development. Key Responsibilities: Support environmental and biodiversity due diligence, monitoring, and compliance activities for international and domestic development projects. Contribute to environmental and social impact assessments, including preparation of technical analyses and reports. Assist clients in developing and implementing ESG strategies and performance improvement programs. Conduct literature reviews, data analysis, field investigations, and technical research to support project delivery. Prepare high-quality reports, recommendations, and client deliverables that meet ERMs standards for quality, budget, and schedule. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across ERMs global Sustainable Finance network. Support project managers in delivering multiple concurrent projects in dynamic, fast-paced environments. Participate in international travel and field assignments, including work in remote locations when required. For the Consultant, Project Finance position, the anticipated annual base pay is $84,980$102,154 (USD). Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are not bonus eligible).
