Department Housing & Residence Life Compensation $15.00 Hourly General Description / Primary Purpose Work performing housekeeping duties including cleaning rest rooms, lounges, student apartments, common use areas, and carpet and tile floors. This position requires a positive, self-motivated person with excellent interpersonal skills, willing to work in an environment requiring strong emphasis on providing superior customer service in conformance with the Universitys mission and values. Housing and Residence Life are an integral part of the Division of Student Affairs, and as such, is measured by its ability to successfully interact with students and to assist in their individual needs and concerns. To this end, the Custodial Worker will often be required to demonstrate a caring and patient attitude, utilize conflict resolution skills, and to ensure that every effort is made to create satisfied students. Job Functions Cleans and maintains floors Completely vacuums floors daily; Spray buffs resilient tile floors to maintain good, clean, and gloss appearance; Strips and re-waxes resilient tile floors to maintain appearance; Shampoos carpets as needed; Uses pile brush vacuum to lift carpet pile to prolong life and maintain appearance; Clean grout on ceramic tile floors; Use extractors to remove moisture Cleans and maintains lounges Completely vacuums floors daily; Empties wastebaskets daily; Spot cleans walls, floors, and doors as needed; Reports problems due to damage or wear to supervisor; Reports non-functioning light bulbs; Arranges furniture in proper order; Shampoos upholstered furniture when soiled; Wipe down tables and chairs Cleans and maintains public lounge appliances Thoroughly cleans and checks microwaves for proper operation; Thoroughly cleans and checks stoves for proper operation as needed; Empties wastebaskets daily; Reports problems due to malfunctions, damage, or wear to supervisor; Reports non- functioning appliance lights; Cleans sinks, counter tops, cabinets and vent hoods to remove food, grease and soil Cleans and maintains halls, common areas, postal facility, stairwells, courtyards, parking areas, elevators and building entrance areas, and ground areas Vacuums floors and upholstered furniture daily; Dusts tables, window sills, arms and legs of chairs, fire extinguisher and water hose cabinets, and the like, daily; Damp cleans vinyl-covered furniture daily; Shampoos upholstered chairs when soiled; Sweeps exposed stairway and steps daily; Sweeps and/or mops tile floors daily; Cleans drinking fountains daily; Cleans stairway handrails as needed; Spot cleans walls and doors as needed; Cleans elevator doors, cabins and door tracks as needed; Removes debris from and sweeps entrance walks and steps daily; Keeps entrance mats clean and presentable; Empties trash containers and sand urns daily; Reports non-functioning light bulbs to supervisor; Reports burnt out light bulbs; Pressure washes external concrete areas as required; Properly disposes of contaminated trash and waste materials. Cleans and maintains rooms, apartments and suites Removes debris, sweeps, and vacuums as assigned; Spot cleans walls, floors, and doors as needed; Cleans, defrosts and deodorizes refrigerator as needed; Thoroughly cleans and checks stove for proper operation as needed; Cleans sinks, countertops, cabinets, and vent hood to remove food, grease and soil; Properly cleans, sanitizes and disinfects all fixtures, walls, floors, mirrors, and shelves; Vacuums and cleans air conditioner closets; Shampoos carpets as needed Cleans glass windows, doors, and window blinds Uses proper cleaners to remove grime, smudges, or other substances from glass surfaces; Thoroughly cleans surfaces leaving no streaks or the residue; Uses proper equipment and takes all safety precautions when cleaning hard to reach glass surfaces; Cleans glass as needed or when directed by supervisor; e) cleans window blinds as assigned All other duties as assigned Required Qualifications Completion of ninth (9th) grade or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Some positions may require possession of a classified drivers license appropriate to a type of vehicle operated.
