Tempus is looking for an ambitious accountant to support growing operations in Chicago. This position will play a key role in the day-to-day accounting functions and month-end close process. Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities: Managing compliance & external filings related to federal & state open payments transparency reporting for covered recipients & sunshine act for physician payments, secretary of state annual filings, city and business license renewals, property tax returns, Chicago cloud, use & sales tax, county filings, regulatory international filings & any other non-income tax filings (e.g., gross receipts taxes etc.) Supporting and participating in the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement close process including preparation of monthly journal entries, accruals and reserves, reconciliation and reviews of balance sheet accounts and performing inquiries / reviews. Preparing internal reporting related to HCP (health care professional) audits & reviews. Assisting with internal & external financial audit and tax work paper preparation & PBCs. Assisting with review of expense reports to the companys internal meal, gift, and entertainment policy. Collaborating and coordinating with internal partners (legal) and with external tax consultants, registered agents, and medpro vendor. Performing research as necessary or following up on correspondence with the tax agencies. Projects include management & efficiency of Medpro database, rollout of multi-book in NetSuite (ERP) to managing regulatory filings, management of tax matter filings in our task tracking tool (Floqast projects), and assisting the accounting leadership team with identifying improvement opportunities and implementing automation to increase efficiencies. Qualifications: 2+ years of experience in audit, compliance or tax roles. Bachelors degree in accounting. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite; Advanced MS Excel skills (Logical Formulas, Lookups, Pivot Tables; experience with Visual Basic and/or SQL a plus but not required). Exceptional customer service skills; cooperative; strong teamplayer. An eye for the details and the ability to deliver accurate output in a timely manner. Strong organizational skills and comfort with managing multiple work streams. High level of selfmotivation with the ability to manage priorities, troubleshoot issues as they arise, and work independently. Poised and works well under pressure and in a fast-paced changing environment. Public accounting experience preferred.
