Estimated Appointment End Date (Continuous if Blank) January 31, 2027 Full/Part-Time Full time Job Type Regular Compensation $60,500.00 annually Job Description Oklahoma House of Representatives Job Description Job Title: Legislative Assistant SUMMARY - Under direction of the member, has general charge and supervision of the office; and performs various administrative and clerical tasks. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Answers and screens members calls; arranges conference calls; provides information to legislators, staff, lobbyists, state agencies, and the general public regarding legislation and the legislative process; or directs call to appropriate personnel or department. Greets and screens office visitors and directs to appropriate area of personnel as required. Responsible for informing member of, and responding to, constituent requests or inquiries by providing information directly and/or working with appropriate staff or agency officials. Reads and routes incoming mail; composes and types routine correspondence; and prepares outgoing mail and correspondence, including e-mail and facsimiles. Arranges and coordinates members daily schedule; arranges and coordinates travel schedule and reservations; and prepares and submits travel and per diem claims. Organizes and maintains members file system; files correspondence and records relating to member and members district. Responsible for pages, chaplains, nurses, and doctors of the day; prepares and distributes citations. Tracks members legislation throughout legislative process. May conduct basic research, compiling information for talking points, presentations, or floor activity as required. Maintains office operations by following established policies and procedures. QUALIFICATIONS - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Passing of basic clerical and typing test may be required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - Two (2) years of administrative experience in a general office environment; college degree preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Knowledge of general office procedures; basic principles in the operation of various office equipment; basic knowledge of state government and the legislative process; spelling, punctuation, business English; and basic arithmetic. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; to write simple correspondence; to effectively present information in a one-on-one and small group situations to members, staff, lobbyists and the public; to work with members, staff, and the public in a sometimes-stressful environment; and to work overtime if required. Skill in typing accurately from plain copy; and in the use of data entry and word processing software.
